01

What your SHA premium is

Your SHA premium is the amount associated with your SHA coverage. For many households it isn't a flat figure — it can be linked to an assessment of your circumstances, which is why two families can see different amounts.

02

Why people question their premium

Most people who ask about reducing their premium aren't trying to avoid paying. They're trying to make sense of a figure that feels out of step with their life.

  • “The amount feels high for what the household actually earns”
  • “Income has dropped, or work has become irregular”
  • “Household details on the record look different from reality”
  • “The amount changed and nobody explained why”
03

Where household and income assessment fits

Where applicable, assessment can take account of household and income-related information to arrive at a premium. That means the information behind your record matters a great deal — more than the figure itself.

04

Why the amount isn't automatically an error

It's tempting to assume a high premium is a mistake. Sometimes it is based on information that's outdated or incomplete; sometimes it reflects the assessment correctly. Telling those apart is the first, most useful step.

05

What premium reduction assistance means

Premium reduction assistance means we help you understand how your contribution was assessed, check whether the household and income information behind it still reflects your situation, and guide you through the official review or appeal route where one applies. It is help with a process — not a discount we can apply.

06

What to check or prepare

Before you contact us, it helps to have a few things ready. Never share passwords, PINs or OTPs with anyone, including us.

  • “The premium amount currently shown for you (monthly or yearly)”
  • “Your ID number and the phone number registered with SHA”
  • “What has changed at home — income, work, household size or living situation”
  • “Any messages or notices you have received from SHA about your assessment”
07

The official decision vs our assistance

SHA, through its official assessment and review process, decides your contribution. Cyber Kenya SHA Desk is an independent assistance service: we explain, help you prepare and guide you through the steps. Paying for assistance does not guarantee a lower contribution and does not give special access to SHA officials.

08

Our assistance charges

Our assistance fee is separate from any official SHA payments. Ask us on WhatsApp and we'll explain the charge for your situation before anything starts.

09
